which tenrec species are you referring to? Did climatic conditions vary from last to this year where you are? How many generations has the animal been in the country or region where you are?
The Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec (Echinops telfairi) is known to adapt its torpor periods (torpor is more correct than "hibernation" in tenrecs) to externally varying climatic conditions - for instance when animals are brought from the Southern to the Northern hemisphere.
