this I thinik depends on the species - if in doubt please send pictures (if possible also of the dead mother to identify the species).
Are you in Madagascar (if yes, where?), Mauritius, Réunion, the Comoros or the Seychelles? (This info will help to identify the species, since outside of Madagascar, only Tenrec ecaudatus occurs.)
Please also look through the Tenrec Bibliography at http://www.tenrec.org/bibliall.htm to find articles on handrearing tenrecs. One example I remember is:
TAYNTON, K. M. (1979): Handrearing pigmy hedgehog tenrec Echinops telfairi at the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust. Dodo, Journal of the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust 16: 64-69. (Free Full Text at http://www.tenrec.org/kmt79.htm)
All the best,
David
