Last year was the second year of my keeping tenrecs and the first time my pair had bred. it cost me a fortune in mouse pinkies and insects to keep the pair and her five babies. This year my confidence had grown, so I weaned the adults onto ferret kibble, moistened with a little water. the mother has shown her babies to eat the kibble. They are all growing well and are much more active than last years babies. So in answer to whether they need live foods, no they dont.
I shall probably change tem over to a lower fat cat kibble as they grow.

: Is it absolutely necessary that tenrecs have
: live food? Are there substitutes, such as
: freeze dried insects?
