I asked her to call my Dr. & she was told my Dr. wasn't there today. I asked if she could be paged or something & I was told no. The the lady at the mammogram place said I could have the mammogram on the one breast but not the other. (ridiculous) I considered doing that, but told her I'd driven 20 miles for my appointment, and I did not want to reschedule. I asked her if she would call my gyno office & see if another Dr there would say I needed it on both breast. Finally another Dr. there said they would write it up and sign for it for my Dr. More time went by & the fax never came through. The lady at the Mammogram place said just reschedule because the fax never came through.
I then got on my cell phone & called my Dr's office & asked what happened to the fax. I'm glad I called, because the the lady at the mammogram place wasn't going to do anymore, and it wasn't a big deal to her for me to reschedule. The receptionist at my gyno office said the other Dr. was busy. I stressed this was very important, & they were not going to let me have my mammogram & I had driven 20 miles to get it. Finally the receptionist bothered this Dr. while seeing a patient & said it needed to be sent RIGHT NOW, & that I was frantic which I was by then!! I insisted the receptionist stay on the phone with me until that fax came though. Nevertheless, at least I did get GOOD NEWS. I can't believe 18 years has gone by. I hope this gives any newbies hope this can be done. The lady doing the ultra sound said mammograms are much better nowadays, and treatments are much better. She also said there are far more survivors than there ever used to be. She even said when she first started doing ultra sounds women were not getting mammograms until they were 50, and by the time it was caught it was either too late, or way more treatments. I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in my mid forties, and so are a lot of other women.
