After consulting with well just about everyone, I am on a waiting list to have my R thyroid out, probably in March or sooner. Although the biopsy was benign, three times now-I have chosen to have it removed, and here is why.
It is growing at about 3 mm a year, which is faster than usual for a benign growth.
Currently it is 4 cm in size and the curve for percentage of it becoming cancer become higher the longer it grows past this marker.
It has also been confirmed that when you have radiation for bc it is more likely that the nodule on the same side (as is the case) can become cancerous.
Even though cancer of the thyroid is contained and I would likely die from something else before thyroid cancer would get to me, I decided that I want to play it safe.
I love my endocrinologist and surgeon.
My oncologist supported this plan as well. So in March I will say goodby to another body part. Sigh.
This growing old is not easy. These decisions are not easy. I have decided that no one gets away from cancer treatment scott free.
So there it is. I appreciate your on going support.
