Hi Cheryl -- Yes, my oncologist recommended a hysterectomy as a preventive measure. The oncologist suggested I take the genetic test after my BC surgery, and I tested positive for the the BRCA2 gene. Also, my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer (at age 79) , her younger sister had breast cancer (at 43), and her older sister had uterine cancer (at 65). I saw the gynecologist every year faithfully since I was 24 years old, and had a mammogram every single year, but the gynecologist never mentioned BRCA gene testing, so I assume genetic testing was somewhat new back in 2003.
