Every February is a bittersweet time for me. On Valentine's Day I had my bi-lateral mastectomy. So, when I think of hearts and flowers, I think of the time spent in the hosp. But, more important than that, it also was a time that I became cancer free. Sometimes, you have to give up something when something else is more important. That was fourteen years ago and every day I realize how fortunate I am to have had this time when others were not that lucky. To this day I continue to ask why I was able to survive and others not. I do know I am stronger and determined to keep on fighting and surviving for as long as I can. For those that are just starting the journey...remember, to keep on fighting, remain pro-active in your health, don't be afraid to ask questions and seek answers. Most of all, remember, there is life after cancer. I, and many others, are living proof of that.
