Lately on eBay there have been metal tags reported as have been found at Stalingrad airfield sites. These are circular or square in shape, about 25-30 cm across, in various colors (red, yellow, white). The tags have a cut-out the center in the shape of a simplified Luftwaffe eagle. These have been described as having been "boarding passes" for personnel leaving the pocket. I question this, thinking instead that perhaps they were used to mark cargo or to indicate airplane status on a display board at a field control center.
Can anyone say for sure what these were used for. May surviving transport aircrew or army veterans be consulted?
Thank for all information,
Steve
