This trips expedition was directed to the Rykov suburbs of the Red October district. Prior to my adventure I had research the area via Goolge Earth and my vast collection of maps and aerials from the battle, most notably surviving combat maps of the Soviet 62nd Army and German aerial reconnaissance photos from 1941-43 of the city. Yes, German aerials photos of Stalingrad from 1941, one year before the battle!
In this area only three structures have survived, one being a large two story T-shape building and a small square brick building with a smoke stack . This second building has been covered with a decorative facing, so it is difficult to see the original building and the smoke stack has been repaired and has reinforcement bands on it.
As of today I have not be able to determine either buildings original purpose (Due to conflicting statements) or physical street address during the battle. Note that the interior has the look and feel of the 1940’s-50’s and was likely restored during that era. Enjoy!
