During the 'wheeling and dealing' phase at the convention, GOP delegates simply PICK whomever they want, with only minimum attention paid to public opinion polls.

That is where TRUMP and CARSON could get cast out - and the GOP instead nominates somebody who is at least credible, like Rubio or maybe even crazy TED CRUZ.
