: I was at a friend's in the Central
: Savannah River Area of Georgia? She
: does not live in a wooded area although
: the back of her lot is not mowed and
: has trees. She is surrounded by
: neighbors and the back of her lot is on
: a major highway.
: A small snake (?) was in her den which
: faces the back and has a storm door
: without a bottom guard. The snake was
: small enough to crawl under the door.
: It was about 6-8 inches long. There was
: a distinctive head and a distinctive
: tail (unlike worms). Are there any
: lizards that look like that in baby
: stages? I assumed it was a snake. Maybe
: grey since it was their hatching time.
: But I would like to know if any lizards
: look like that?
Well, you don't give much to go by. Many species of snake either hatch or are born that small, and most of them are harmless. There are also several species of legless lizards which can look like snakes.
