California has always had a lot of fires. They have the droughts then the fires, some caused by lightning some accidental campfires not put out properly and then the arsonists, with the Santa Anna winds spreading them. Then comes the mud slides feom where the vegetation was burned away. I remember hearing about them when I was in school. I think there has always been others we just haven't heard as much about them.
