I read some of your previous posts about fat grafting (from 2015). Have your thoughts about this procedure for primary breast reconstruction changed since that time?
I had bilateral mastectomy with failed implants. I do not want to risk abdominal wall injury or the possible need for mesh insertion if DIEP isn't possible.
My expanders were removed due to infection. I am pondering fat grafting to fill in the centers of my deflated breasts (without use of BRAVA). I'm told this would take 3-4 grafting sessions over the course of a year or so to build up enough breast mass to make a difference in breast fullness.
The ASPS has published a position paper on the safety of fat grafting after mastectomy. Do you have any recent thoughts about the procedure and its viability for women who do not want invasive flap surgery or implants? Are the risks of liposuction and lipofilling of the breasts as great as those of flap surgery?
Thanks for your time and expertise. Happy Spring!
