I was advised to wait 6 months after radiation before removing the TEs and having flap reconstruction. It's been almost 5 months now. Lately the radiated side seems to be contracting more and more around the TE, causing great and increasing discomfort. I was hoping the contracting would have subsided by now.
If I wait just 6 months and have flap surgery, will that side continue to contract afterwards, and adversely affect the flap recon, or would most of the radiated tissue and skin be replaced with the flap tissue/skin, which shouldn't contract? Is there any benefit to waiting more than 6 months?
Thank you again. MerrellGirl
