I met with another breast surgeon today who indicated he would leave approximately 7mm of tissue when performing the mastectomy. He says leaving this amount of tissue helps prevent fat necrosis. Does your team follow this practice? Is there a standard amount of breast tissue your team will leave behind for mastectomy with reconstruction or does your breast surgeon scrape to the skin leaving no subcutaneous tissue? (I can not find any information on the topic of what is an appropriate/ safe amount of tissue to leave behind (if any) during mastectomy on the internet.) Thank you!
