The left are as dangerous if not more than the right

and has more chance of beating back the far-right beast in the short-to-medium term at least. Whether he will bring about the substantive change needed to genuinely improve the lot of the vast majority, I have my doubts to put it mildly. And it's not him, it's just a question of how much difference any individual can make to the system in which the corporate world has its claws so deeply embedded.
He left Westminster because he thought he could make more of a difference at local level, and has proved to be correct in that. Think he will make a more effective PM than Starmer, show more strength and integrity and move some things in a better direction without really shaking up the system. A bit better than what we have had, and perhaps the best that can be hoped for.
Time as ever will tell, I'm pleased but not exactly brimming with optimism and hope for the future.

Politics in UK over the last couple of decades has increasingly gone the way of USA with major political parties completely beholden to corporate, millionaire and now billionaire donors.
Running an effective political entity in the online Information Age is expensive. SNP and Greens have had periods of progress but it has largely depended on the social engagement of their leaders (Polanski now, Sturgeon previously). Whether it is Starmer or Burnham or Rayner or Streeting no prospective Labour leader has the status to ignore their backers.
Even if they did they face a largely hostile mainstream media who will shoot them down if they step out of line yet will happily platform stooges like Farage, with his dodgy foreign money and pub bore racism, and Lowe with his blatant fascism.
It is just a shit show. I have no real belief it can or will change for the better.

Mancs will be licking their lips.
HS2 back on track to the heart of Manchester. Utd's new stadium 'helped' in ways we didn't or even the RS can only dream about and further enhancements to the manc airport - great work for a so-called scouser.
But maybe Burnham can prove he is, in fact a REAL scouser, get HS2 to Lime Street and get this city a proper Tram system.
Oh, and a proper condemnation of the genocide in Gaza is well overdue and an arms embargo on Israel.
