As a Medical Registrar in the late 80s I had to cover the long stay elderly wards at the old Sefton Hospital. The only 'star' who would pop in occasionally to visit the patients with Alzeimher's was Ken Dodd.
No publicity, no photographers, just being a good egg and spreading a bit of joy.
In contrast, when I was a Consultant, Princess Margaret made a visit to one of our small rehabilitation and dementia care hospitals and refused to take the short trip round the Psychogeriatric ward.

somewhere talking to a gentleman with dementia who was at the game. Wonderful thing to watch after losing my mum and dad to that evil disease. Well done to whoever put that together. 💙💙💙
