... in August 2022 we played at Brentford, and I managed to get a ticket two rows from the front, opposite side to the dugouts, in with the Brentford fans. Great view of the game. There was a break in play when a player (Onana, I think) was being treated for an injury. All the players, from both sides, went across to their coaching teams for instructions and to take on drinks on a very hot day. Apart from one player, that is, who at that time was strongly suspected of trying to engineer a move away from Everton. Gordon simply stayed on our side of the pitch, strolling up and down just inside the touchline, showing no imterest in what was happening across the pitch. Sure enough, the rumours were accurate and the Newcastle move happened four months later. As you say, he downed tools to get away; and not just at Brentford either.
