and explicitly chooses not to utilise his squad, was never going to work. This league is too competitive and physical for that.
So claiming the strategy worked right up until the point where it didn't, is highly disingenuous. He gambled on a poorly thought out strategy (which wasn't ever going to succeed), it didn't work and he really ought to pay for that misjudgement with his job.

We were close against Liverpool, we were as close as you could ever be to defeat City. With those players. They maybe ran out of gas, but it's just plain wrong to say that his team selection weren't working up until that point. And maybe they wouldn't have ran out of gas if that Doku belter had hit the stands instead of the top corner he never hits.
Mourinho rarely changed his winning Chelsea side, same 15 players a whole season.
I'm not saying Moyes is doing everything right - or wrong as most people here these days. I'm saying his chosen players were on track and ultimately failed.
There are surely other ways to manage a football squad, probably better ways, but things were working out fine for us. Until the last seven rounds.

or the half-arsed performances of recent weeks (though bad enough) but it's the sheer bloody-mindedness of sticking with the same side and the same tactics when it's clearly not working.
His attitude is perplexing, really is coming across as being stubborn and petulant and has been for most of the season. It's not a good look.
He has also got a lot of things right and overseen numerous unexpected away wins that propelled us to the verge of European contention before the wheels came off.
Probably has enough credit in the bank with the owners to get at least the first half of next season, but he must be testing their patience. Especially if he tries to make out all the problems are a result of him not getting the players he wanted and implies it's their fault.
Personally, I am at the stage where I am OK with him staying on for now, mainly for continuity reasons, but wouldn't be too upset if he went.

He'll play the same tight group of favourites all season.

But he needs to rotate the players some more. Hopefully he has learned from it.

I just felt the need to say it.
Maybe he isn’t what we need, I’m not sure of anything.
But I liked this season, for the most part.
That late City goal knocked me out as I was reeling from the Liverpool blow.
Up until then I think it was a season with good results and decent football once in a while. Many joyful and unexpected away wins. At Old Trafford, at Villa Park.
I slept pretty well during the campaign.
I really like David Moyes as a person, that little I know. There’s a certain dignity about him. He’s not gonna revolutionize the game, but I don’t think he need to.
Had we won that City game, he might be a hero in here now. Or maybe not.
