....I cant imagine its done for the health of the grass...more to do with creating that fast surface. No idea if they went OTT yesterday, but the modern pitches are so free draining even on rainy day it will loose that zip very quickly after a shower.

Someone out there will know far more than me about pitch/turf quality and maintenance, but the surface yesterday got watered before kickoff, a few showers during the game, and again at half time the sprinklers were on.
Throughout the game there were people losing their footing, slipping or almost slipping, but we *add* water to the pitch after a first half where I'm thinking Pickford is going to go over on his arse on a goal kick? I get that the pitch needs to be looked after far better than my lawn, the drainage system is great and so on, but it looked particularly slippery. I thought at the time that O'Brien lost it a little for his mistake, but looking back, it was just a shit pass. Ndiaye certainly went at least once, one of the Sunderland lads ended up on his arse for the pass immediately before O'Brien's fuckup... just makes no sense to me.
Geniuine question....ta
