But why are UK & US politicians so beholden to the Israeli lobbying? Is it just the financial support?
As I'm not coming home, I don't vote now as I don't think it'd be right... but from the outside looking in, it seems mad just how vigorously the claims of the Israeli state etc seem to be pushed.
Even the Maccabi fans stuff. There were clear reasons to ban them, for Parliament, Police oversight etc to get massively involved was just a bit weird.
But as I say, I could well be missing something.
NB. I don't have any issues with the state of Israel (though am massively against the current leadership and it's actions).
Happy to be educated by those with more knowledge

to the point that the government are all but obliged to unquestioningly turn a blind eye to a genocide. It's even worse in the US. The fundamental injustice of this is a big problem for people, and quite rightly so.
Yeah, antisemitic conspiracy theory - except it's really not.
That said, I do agree that the issue should not dominate discussion to the exclusion of all else.

So I will say it. I find it utterly fucking ridiculous we have imported an argument from 1000s of miles away in the middle east to the point where it massively impacts our politics.
If you dont condemn one side or the other you are X or Y.
Zionist!
Antisemite!
Racist!
Terrorist!
And on and on and on
Its farcical.
I find the rise in antisemitism in the UK disgusting as I am sure everyone does.
I find the rise of racism towards none whites disgusting as I am sure everyone does.
But I think Importing the arguments of others to the level we have, utterly ridiculous, actual insanity.
We have our own concerns in tbe country without allowing Israel / Palestine to impact our politics so much and dominate as it has been doing
Economics, NHS, rising poverty, wealth gap, disillusioned youth, petty crime rate, incoming increases in unemployment, etc etc etc, the list goes on.
Col you .. Blah blah blah.
Honestly. As a collective the UK needs to get a grip.
We wont fix domestic issues by dividing so vehement over who sides with who in the ongoing issues in the middle east.
Sadly the council elections seem to indicate I am pissing in the wind.

Is it more important than economic and domestic policy for many people?
BTW this is as good faith position from myself.

Trev is referencing the fact he was in Labour Friends of Israel and part of the antisemitism pile on against Corbyn (starting out neutral but becoming gradually more outspoken as he saw which way the wind was blowing). He has offered up a more critical stance on Israeli actions as Mayor but for a lot of left-leaning voters he is damaged goods. I doubt he’d be effective countering the Green surge because of that.

…I looked up his Wiki a wee while ago and found out that he lived in Culceth just across the East Lancs rd from Lowton where I lived - it’s where Jane Horrocks is from).
Then I saw he went to St Aelreds Secondary School in Newton Le Willows as I did! Small world!
