Go to a football match, Fram and KR are in Reykjavik, family friendly usually with an open clubhouse. Even better go to a Handball game if the season is still on, great atmosphere.
Go to any local swimming baths, they are the centre of each community in Iceland.
See what's on at HARPA, there is usually kids schools on every day and the building is ace in side - walkable from the city centre.
Hire electric scooters if kids are old enough.
Go to the docks and take a fishing trip. We did it and were the only ones on the boat, our kids loved it.
If in need of Western shopping, take a taxi, scooter or 30 min walk to Kringlan shopping mall - decent shopping and food. You can walk here via Hallgrims Church (the big one) and main hospital but - it's a good 30 min walk if you like urban hikes.
Taxi to the National Football Stadium at Laugardalsvollur - there isn't a shop but if you are into groundhopping it's fun.
You can do all the popular attractions out of time via coach as well.
Enjoy, it's very outdoorsy
