I despair for the UK almost as much as I do for the US. And I know we’re just trailing the inevitable here in Canada. My hope is that the dominant social culture here continues to prevail long enough to see just how bad the alternatives are. It’s what recently saved us from a Conservative government (led by a populist leader in Pierre Poilievre) but there’s certainly a (growing?) base of support that has never really gone away.

There’s a lack of trust in institutions and politicians and a feeling that we need a complete reset. So, Labour / Conservatives…there’s the door.
The fact that the Green Party is next up on the left shows there’s no real alternative. Reform is the alternative on the right and have the media on side, along with the cult of Farage.
I think we’re a FAFO stage where the country needs a dose of Reform government for a term to see how truly fucked up things can really get. And let them truly own it. Not like how Brexit’s failure to create England’s true green pleasant land is pinned on the Tories not truly delivering the Brexit that was voted for; let Reform hoist themselves with their own petard.
Shame is that it fucks over everyone else and a whole bunch of people I care about. But I don’t know how you do away with the phantom menace other than bringing it fully into the open and shining a light on how woefully inadequate it is.

The amount of people entering illegally on boats is in the grand scheme small, but its what is at the root of Farage and Reforms popularity. Its the seed. So labour needs to address that.
Its the seed that leads to

Take away his voice by reducing the amount of people coming over by boat

People have to wake up to the issues that are turning people to Reform, whether those issues are correct or not.
It is also sensible to reduce the amount of undocumented people coming into the country - thats just common sense
If you can reduce the number of people entering the country illegally and take away that topic of conversation, then we can begin to solve the real immigration crisis, which is that we need more foreign workers for various jobs across the country. Right now we cant have that discussion, because illegal immigration dominates peoples minds.
