Why next season might be a struggle...

This year we have the 14th highest value squad in the PL, and currently sit in 8th. An extra net spend of £100m (assuming other teams don't increase their squad value) would put us to 10th (above Crystal Palace). Then another £150m needed to reach 7th. Even if we recruit well I think it's more a case of improving our chances of a top half finish, rather than kicking on to challenge the top 6/7. Don't get me wrong, consistently finishing top half is no bad achievement. I'm just worried how realistic it is that we get to treat this season as some sort of a baseline.
