as with so many other matters, Trump seems to be able to get away with things that would engulf any other POTUS in a fatal shitstorm. He has proved that the system of checks and balances, mechanism for removal of a mentally ill President, congressional approval and much else besides is essentially worthless. No matter what happens after he's gone, having the US as a nominal ally is not the golden ticket it used to be, the special relationship is not so special anymore and that now the door has been opened, there is every chance that even nuttier leaders will follow. Maybe that's a good thing in the long term - the Western world shouldn't be revolving around the whims of the US government,and the increasingly crazy and belligerently ignorant voters who put them into office.

The UK system of a choice between two establishment parties is creaking, maybe the same will happen in the US in time.
