A mate described it as like sleeping in someone else’s bed, & I couldn’t agree more.
It’s now a day/night out with a game of football in the middle, which has changed it forever (albeit I’m not complaining about the corporate angle too much just yet).

I have been once this year when a mate kindly gave me a ticket for free.
it was amazing- the stadium, the experience, the seats!
I loved it.
but is it the everton that hooked me in the 70's that my dad took me to watch and my grandad the same.
in a word, no.
its not.
but its that out of necessity. its a billionaires world now
i'm a dinosaur. i recall bunking in, walking up to pay, the sweet smell of horseshite, paddy cook our football bizzy, bluto with the beard, the geniune sense of the unknown every game. I loved it.
but we arent in that world anymore. my mum lives in a village by wrexham and she asked us who i wanted to come up. I answered millwall so we can give them a good kicking. 'your 52 she said'.
and its a fair point.
i live in a world where what was 'cool' is no longer. couple of years back some people were occupying mine and the kids seats on the train I asked and got told in no uncertain terms to move them as they wouldn go of their own accord. so i did. it got a bit out of hand but job done.
i returned to my seat victorius only to find my kids shaking their heads- dad that is so uncool.
to this day if they shoot me that look I adjust my behaviour and its hard to do for me. the game and the club have moved on they've had to. i loved the ground but did it feel everton to me? I don't know.
that being said I will always be blue as will my kids etc etc etc. but its now like a night at thh theatre or a pricey gig.
it used to be the same at the boxing- frank used to be able to get tickets for hattons fights and it was ace. I started watching boxing live again a while back. I now sit indoors in comfort and get on with my life!
funny old game saint.
nostalgia aint what it used to be.
