Sentiment among supporters is that we should have atleast qualified for champions league given that we spent the joint 14th most in the transfer window, and that only a manager change can get the most out of our overly paid (average premier league) and back where we belong.
We start next season optomistic, but after only picking up 4 points in our first 3 games, calls for the managers head increase. Team are booed off after only beating newely promoted Burnely 1-0 after they defended doggedly for 90 mins.
Moyes sacked - manager shortlist include any of the recently sacked managers for also failing to win the league at their respective clubs over the last few years.
New manager bounce doesnt happen, languish in mid table before a slump to 14th towards the end of the season.
New manager sacked. Best player sold.
Bemoan the days when we used to be up their challenging for european places.

slow and steady progress is easy to say, but needs definition.
In a years time, we will have had two more transfer windows to help us improve. I have not forgotten how well our decline was managed over the years and as a result I think progress should be more defined.
I would think minimum of twp places better in the league this time next year would be progress, anything else is stagnation.
I would also say the the league is the standard for bench marking, the Cups are one offs and no indication of overall progress (see Palace this year). The higher up the league you go, the better chance you have of attracting better players and obtaining trophy success.
Lets set the bar at 6th next season and have a target for progress.
