As I mentioned, there were suddenly problems getting the tickets. Luckily it worked out thanks to a guy named Tony, who got ordered by the ticket company to send them on WhatsApp. I was still nervous about whether they would even work – but they did 😄
My son and I arrived at the stadium already at 6 pm as we were hoping to see the players arrive. Unfortunately we only managed to see the Burnley players, because we were 10 minutes late.
The stadium was absolutely fantastic! We were seated in Block 12, Row 18. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and we were allowed to walk around the stadium and take some pictures.
When the match finally started, I was impressed by the sound from the crowd. The siren and Z-Cars were very special as well.
The first half wasn’t particularly exciting, but we felt Everton were in control. Tarkowski’s goal came at the right time. Got us all going.
The second half was really entertaining. It was clear that the players now were full of confidence. They dared to dribble and play quick in tight spaces. Our second goal was brilliant. Not just the finish itself, but the build-up to it.
It made a big impression on us when McNeil was substituted. The whole stadium rose and applauded – he was our Man of the Match. But so many players did well. We honestly don’t think there was a single one of the starting eleven who didn’t perform well.
My son loved that Ndiaye was allowed to take a small half lap of honour when he was substituted.
We laughed when we sang the Pickford song and he gestured to the crowd to sing even louder – which everyone then did.
The song about Barry made us laugh. I hadn’t heard it before, but I did know that he scored with his ‘arse’ 😄
We walked home happy and tired.
Today we visited Goodison, and later this afternoon we went on a stadium tour. Another great experience.
We both agree that the people of Liverpool have been more than kind to us. They are helpful, sweet, and welcoming. So much has changed since I was here in 2000, and I would very much like to come back again. The only slightly negative thing was our hotel, which couldn’t turn on the heating last night, so we had to borrow a heater – but after that, everything was fine.
Up the Toffees!
