the style was ultimately turgid and by the end the football unwatchable, but I don't think you can dismiss the state of the club either when he arrived or in what proved to be his only full season in charge as an excuse. Keeping us up in 23 and then staying clear of danger despite the deductions and the ownership shenanigans are both solid achievements that many would not have managed. Let's not forget Martinez, Koeman, Silva, Allardyce, Benitez and Lampard all failed too and Ancelotti didn't exactly pull up any trees - all suggesting the main problem was more at boardroom level.

None of that means I wanted Dyche to stay longer or that I think he's a managerial genius. I just think this perception of him as a one-dimensional footballing dinosaur is slightly unfair. Our struggles in front of goal didn't begin and end with him.

Right man to bring in at the time, and the right time to let him go, IMO.
