if he's holding out for £300k plus a week then the current situation shows how dangerous that is
A 3 year contract is £45m plus the £20m transfer fee with no sell on. £65m for 3 years
For that money we need him playing every week
I'd prefer to spend £300k a week on 3 players on £100k/week rather than a 31 year old who may miss half a season through injury
The fact he's sustained a non contact injury is also worrying
Look at the problems Liverpool have caused by overpaying for Salah and Van Dijk even though they have more than had their money's worth
Do footballers wages ever go down even once they've peaked as a player ?
I'd have paid £300k for a 25 year old Grealish but not a 31 year old

There isn't any official news yet other than he "has sustained a foot injury" and he "will be reviewed by a specialist in the coming days" with "further updates provided in due course" but the usual reliable sources are saying it's 3 months...
If that's the case then - given the way these timescales usually work with us! - personally I'd be surprised if we see him play for us again this season, and obviously that could mean that he's already played his last game for us, which would be a shame for all the reasons mentioned below.
