The issue I have is that as far as I can remember, Moyes has made it pretty clear next season will be his last as manager. These situations are often problematic for a club. We are looking at a short-term thing and we will soon need a new manager in any case. Be it next or summer of '27. There are some major decisions to be made next summer and since Moyes takes part in the identification and selection of signings it would have a big impact on the next manager if he arrives in '27. Biggest one is Grealish. He is a specific type of player who will not suit every manager. He would prpbably be our highest paid player until about 2030.
To put it in other words: would it be a good move to invest, say, 100 million on players for Moyes who will be gone a year later? Or alternatively, is this style of football what we want going forward? Or should the club consider something else? It is not easy to find players who can play every style of football.
This is the big picture I have been thinking about lately.
