We were never going to get everything we needed during one transfer window given that we went into it with something like only 15 players in our squad (once all of the loans and end-of-contract players had left us). That's an insane number of players that we needed to bring in.
Given that we didn't (as ever) get everyone we needed in early in the window, there was always going to be a need to bed them in bit by bit during the season.
Making your mind up on the likes of Beto at this stage of his Everton career is fine, but to write off the likes of Rohl after a handful of appearances is madness.
Half the fan base had written Garner off as not good enough - myself included - before this season and he's having the best season of his career during 25/26. I still don't think he'll be an Everton great, but he's improved immeasurably since the Dyche days, which just goes to show the value of patience.
Aznou, Rohl, Dibbling, Barry etc. are all relatively young players currently being asked to carry a lot of water in the absence of so many first teamers during their first tastes of the Premier League. They need time and patience too.
This season is up and down, as was always anticipated it would be. We'll be better again, and we'll have more stinkers. I suppose the fact that we suddenly emerged as European dark horses recently put added pressure on the team, not to mention increased anticipation from the fan base. Sadly, this has coincided with the squad being without so many important players all at once, and we've been unable to live up to the anticipation.
That's life.
Everyone needs to hang in there and not knee jerk, as truly 'Everton' and disappointing as this latest wretched run has been
Despite everything, we are still well placed - if we can put a small run together in the near future - to sneak back into contention again.
A couple of astute signings this January would really boost our chances too.
