I suppose he's not done enough yet to make a fair comparison and has had form and fitness problems. At his best though he was carrying that Chelsea side in a similar way to how Rooney did with United - but Rooney had better players around him.

At club level - it is true that Rooney had achieved more at a similar age.

At international level, it never really happened for Rooney on a consistent basis for whatever reason (Euro 2004 aside) whereas Palmer has already scored in a World Cup final and has looked the best player on the pitch when he's played (usually off the bench thanks to Southgate "protecting him"). I just think he's a hugely influential player - when he plays well the team usually does too. Same definitely applied to Rooney who's certainly the best English player I've ever watched to date. Palmer may be a notch below in terms of sheer ability, as most are, but feel he could go on to be even more effective. We shall see.
