To be honest I don’t massively mind it as a concept. In the old system you did get a lot of dead rubbers.

The big problem I’ve got is the teams that finish 9th-24th going into the play off to decide which 8 teams join the top 8 teams. It’s a lot of football to be played for not many teams to get eliminated.

And a bigger issue is how this impacts the national leagues. More games means more fixture congestion means more managers complaining (even though fixture congestion only affects a handful of them, with the biggest squads). Leads to the ridiculous system that in the second round of the league cup the European teams are seeded to avoid each other in case they are scheduled on the same day in Europe.
