but given the incredible turnaround when he came in and the squad rebuilding that's taken place over the summer - still very much a work in progress - I can't see any sense in looking to make a change now or even in the summer. Whilst his conservative instincts can be maddening, there is something to be said for caution and slow, incremental improvement. You only have to look at what happened last time he left, great first season with Martinez, ripping up the script and playing without fear was fun to watch when we were winning, however it all started to crumble and despite (or perhaps because of) Moshiri coming in and spending money like a drunken sailor on shore leave, things have never been the same since.

My point is, fans are fickle and impatient (I include myself in that). I think we will be planning for Moyes to see out his contract, no more no less, with all the usual caveats.

I think it’s simply many are aware of his limitations, and feel, like I do, that right now it’s ok he’s doing well enough, but he will never truly release the handbrake, he’ll always favour a player’s defensive capabilities over his attacking ones..

This is fine for now when we need to stabilise, but at some point we’ll need better than Moyes.

My biggest worry with him coming back was that too many of our fans never forgave him for either leaving or how he acted when trying for Fellaini and Baines (the latter point I have more sympathy with). The second we have any kind of downturn - and ALL managers have them - it was always going to result in the mega moaning. He brings too much baggage.

I’m happy as heck that he’s here and wouldn’t swap him. Lots were / are just waiting to knife him at the first / next opportunity, however.
