It seems that the only really sub-shy manager is Pep! It could be argued that with the quality of players he has available, he has less need, but it is also a genuine preference. It relates to a further point, however. The willingness of a manager to bring on subs depends, in part, on their perception of whether it would make a difference. In the past few years Al subs bench has been very poor. Whilst not in the same league as some of the top clubs, we now have players on the bench you can make a difference. Question then is who they are and at what point do you bring them on? I don't have any great beef with Moyes on the former, but he does seem to sometimes bring them on too late to make an impact.
