I know that Mr Gard will mock me for mentioning "body language" but I felt that Barry's clear distress at missing that chance seemed to seep through to the rest of the team, and Col's suggestion ("What's the point of creating these chances when he's missing them and now his head's gone") might well hold some truth. The timing of taking him off clearly hadn't been suggested at half-time (their goal clearly changed the thinking on that) so again we had to see his clear distress at being taken off when he's obviously wanting to prove himself.
I've seen so many different opinions on whether Beto or Barry is our best/worst option but for me they're both as good/bad/frustrating as each other - just in different ways. The consistent thing about them both is that unfortunately they're nowhere near what we need, but that's what we've got, at least until January, so we've got to make the best of it.
I would also say that I'm not quite as panicky as others seem to be. Yes, I think the game was quite badly managed, the introduction of McNeil was baffling given the other options on the bench (and he was as awful as we'd expected - but he always is on the right hand side - hence "baffling") and the other substitutions were far too late as well, but for those first 20 minutes I felt that we looked as good as we've looked all season, so as someone who will always take the positives, that will be what I will take from the game and just hope that they can find a way to maintain that kind of control for 90 minutes, get the strikers scoring and that Ndiaye isn't injured for the next game.

we started the game pressing way high up the pitch. Dewsbury-Hall played virtually alongside Barry and N’Diaye and Grealish (I think) had been told to push much further forward too.
And it worked - the goal was a moment of magic, but generally we completely unsettled Sunderland who were jittery and nervous. Their defence in particular, couldn’t cope with our pressure and gave the ball away in bad situations - we were probably unfortunate not to have scored a second.
Barry looked much better because he had players around him to play off (instead of being asked to win headers booted at him from 40 yards away).
It all went wrong once we settled back deeper and stopped pressing so high. Maybe (and I’m probably being generous) the manager told them at half time, to restart that press, but the equaliser came so quickly into the 2nd half that no pattern of play had emerged. It from there, we went to pieces tactically until the last 10 minutes.
Ultimately, from minute ~30 when we dropped much deeper, it became a masterclass in passive, cautious and dreadful game management. We were very fortunate not to concede a second when Sunderland had their really dominant 15 or so minutes.
We’d have taken a point before kick-off so I guess there’s no great damage done. But Premier League football is becoming more and more about how managers/coaches react to how the game plays out. 5 subs gives you a chance to replace half your outfield players and in doing so, react to tactical changes and/or opportunities you identify in-game. Swapping one isolated forward for the other and then waiting until the last 5-10 minutes to chuck on Alcaraz, really only demonstrates how stuck in the 2010’s Moyes is.

....he's so obviously superior to Beto.
He just needs to be given the time. Subbing him so early helps absolutely nobody and lo and behold we lost any remaining measure of control we had at that point until Tim came on late to beef up midfield.

players become a bit fed up with the strikers - if at all ?
maybe they dont
but Grealish should be on 7 or 8 assists, Ndiaye should be on 3 or 4
I'd 100% stick with Barry for the Fulham game, but we collapsed after Barry missed his chance - at that stage we had 7 shots, they had one, by the time our next shot came in they had 16.
Do the players just begin to think, fucking hell no point passing to the forwards etc ?
Its every week we are missing chances in the 6 yard box
If there is a kid in the young who can score tap ins I'd be getting him in the squad
