Genocide is a policy. You can't pin it on the soldiers alone. The ones who need dragging to Hague are the policy-makers.
And when this policy is aimed at a specific group based on ethnicity, etc. and is wide-spread enough then I would call it genocide if the aim is to eraditate that group. "Enough" is obviously very much debatable but there have been instances where a few thousand murders clearly are genocide (like the Moriori genocide) so it's more about intent than results.
So what was the Israeli goals in this war? Do you believe it was purely to save those hostages or to just destroy Hamas?

But it is not beholden upon us all to accept that definition, just like we dont have to accept there is a trans genocide. (again I think trans people are being treated badly and used a political football but genocide?)

and for many it means to want to exterminate an enitre race, religion or ethnic group. Like others have said, they could have poisened the water, they could have killed every palestian they had in prison, they could have carpet bombed the place (more than they did). So by my simplistic definition, its not genocide. Bit there is a technical definition, and thats not the one most of us think of. By the technical definition it looks to meet those criteria. But just because some body makes a technical definition we dont all have to jump to it.

A statistician I respect greatly on X downloaded the deaths data released by Hamas and analysed it. The majority of the excess was in younger males. The numbers are bad obviously and the IDF clearly don’t care too much about collateral but there does seem to be some element of targeting.
