Dave T's left peg

Mainly due to Pep ball and the monotonous 50 pass strategy to maintain possession and drag opponents out of position.
Old fashioned wingers no longer exist and that has seen the demise of the old fashioned No 9.
I think of Dave Thomas, Steve Highway, Ryan Giggs, Kanchelskis, Eddie Gray et al. Add in great crossers of a ball such as Hinchcliffe, Baines, Sheedy, Ashley Cole etc and you can see why CF's prospered.
Now they make runs and aren't found as the ball is pinged around relentlessly.
I think there is a place for it in today's game and we like the 'up and at them' approach which is part of our history with No 9's.
I am sure the stats would improve significantly if the old fashioned wingers returned.
It seems fullbacks have overtaken real wingers

are mostly shite
While crossing can be a valid attacking strategy, the direct success rate of converting crosses into goals is relatively low. One study of the English Premier League suggests that, on average, only about 1 in 91 open play crosses leads to a goal.
