the only question is the exact timing of events. A minority of extremely greedy, completely ruthless individuals with an insatiable lust for money and power control the world's destiny and I cannot see any plausible scenario in which the steering wheel is wrested from their hands. More extreme weather, more unrest, more poverty, more desperation, more anger, less tolerance - all seems inevitable at this point.
