The US did with trump, i.e. thinking there will be a gotcha moment, something he says or does that will finish him, nothing will, people dont care about that anymore. Like you say, take apart his policies or lack of them.

first Id take students out of the stats and explain why.
Then sector by sector look at all the reasons migrant workers are needed.....so like agriculture, you wont be avble to do much with, NHS, you could over time with training.
Start publishing the figure sector by sector, with targets for reducing over time where possible. Expain all that to folk, enough will buy it.....so long as you also tackle the boats. I would like boat crossings to stop. They were almost negligible, *when there was realistic, accessible routes to immigration*. Unfortunately, due to racist knee-jerking, they were almost all pulled (not for white Ukranians though, obviously).
