I was told they had 3 initial targets. One stayed and extended, one went elsewhere, one was priced out.
So they met agents with players who they had contact with earlier in the window as they had players were further down our list. The club outlined possible parameters, letting the agents confirm their client’s interest and then test what might be possible with the current club.
It is actually a pretty common way to whittle down multiple possibles into one or two to pursue when you do not have a strong preference and are already negotiating other deals (in our case Dibling at the time). Agents do a lot more leg work on a lot of deals than most fans realise. The club to club stuff is often quite late in the process.

act together. “Learning from experience” is great whether it’s running a stadium or building a team but “being really good at a difficult job” is what the motto and the opportunity require.

Who posted that is not the worst source out there but Soler does not fit the profile we have briefed to agents.
He is a decent player so I am sure we and many others had a conversation but if it was more than that it is hard to see the joined up thinking. We have been seeking a dynamic, athletic and physical DM who sits, breaks up play and can start counters and retain the ball under pressure. Soler is more a versatile technician, passer and set piece threat who likes to occupy the same spaces as KDH (the 8/10 tweener). An odd one to me but Everton often confuse me!
