It's so hard to have a rational discussion so it's just easier to not say anything which leads to this other issue.
Can't talk for other racists but I can admit immigration also has its issues. Correct solution just isn't to stop it but to try to work to fix the issues. Things like culture clashes. Men from cultures for instance do have a view on women that doesn't align with our views (although funnily enough those right wing loons often have a view closer to those immigrants than us lefties).
But is that really a reason to stop immigration altogether? Of course not.

I think you overestimate the power and influence "the left" wield - despite the frothing rage of the media commentariat about how "woke" is responsible for all the modern world's ills.
I'd say it's more to do with a failed economic system driving living standards down and opportunists looking for a convenient scapegoat, often conflating migrants (both legal and illegal) with asylum seekers, draw your own conclusions as to why they'd want to do that.
Of course the asylum system is broken and needs reforming, I don't see that you can blame the left for the 14 years of Tory rule that left us with the current chaos.

Mostly because left wing folk wont entertain any discussion because they dont want to be accused of being racist, but it does put a strain on local towns and communities and services, at a time when the government cant afford to help. We have enough problems without importing more undocumented people.
Across Europe the mood is very much turning.
I think there is a silent group of people hoping the french, italians, austrians, polish, hungarians, greeks, spanish, germans, will all deal with it (by any means necessary) so we dont have to, so we dont have to 'look bad' - we dont get our hands dirty, we can still have the moral high ground, whilst secretly thanking others for patrolling their borders.
There are things that could be done, but uttering a word gets you branded a racist
I recently suggested to someone that we should set up processing centres along the coast, and take anyone arriving to those centres.
I was called all sorts for that suggestion.
