For a team to finish 8th you’re talking minimum of 60-65 goals.
Everton are not scoring that amount of goals this season.
That’s adding 50% on top of what we usually score. Absolutely no chance IMO.
Opinions of course but I just don’t see how people can watch us and feel we’re a team that creates quality chances and has the capability to score them.
Even when fit, our first choice fullbacks whilst defensively pretty sound offer next to nothing offensively. Teams that finish 8th don’t have poor ineffective attacking fullbacks.
A cohesive attacking team has to have fullbacks that can contribute to effective offensive play.
Add to that 2 central midfielders in Garner and Gana who again offer nothing creatively. Garner was out of position last night which wasn’t his fault but is he really a top half team No.6? Be honest he isn’t. Gana likes to roam but this season I think is when reality hits and becomes his last for us given his age.
Add in the 2 centre halves and that’s a total of 6 outfield players who can’t contribute attacking wise leaving everything to the 3 behind the striker.
No wonder we struggle so badly to create/score.
The 3 behind the striker are very similar. Grealish and Ndiaye ball huggers/dribblers. Alcaraz for me is just average squad filler.
If Dibling comes in we are placing a huge onus on a 19 year old inexperienced kid to lift us. That’s not fair. To me he also is very similar to Grealish and Ndiaye i.e. a head down dribbler. We’ll need 3 balls..one for each one of them.
The centre forward position is a tough position to play for this side admittedly given the paucity of chances created but Beto just isn’t the answer. He simply can’t hold the ball up and is cumbersome. Barry is raw and I think Moyes won’t play him regularly. I reckon we will be after another one as Chermiti is useless too.
To me we lack threat and pace all over the pitch and are pedestrian so everything through the thirds has to be almost perfect.
I’m just saying what I see. Not meant to be native, more realistic.
Our “success” in recent times has been a collective team effort to keep the goals down and we’ve done it via hard work from the front and staying compact and solid to make up for our players lack of creative ability.
Some of those players have gone now and are being replaced by more “technical” players I guess. Whether they are effective or not remains to be seen.
2 weeks to get enough in through the door to ensure we are comfortable and there are no worries.
Whatever happens, for me 8th position with this squad is utter fantasy but I’ll gladly cyber shake your hand and pat you on the back for being right if it materialises come May next year

Surely the mistakes last night were so glaringly obvious he won’t make them again.
It was too late but, Grealish left, Alcaraz center and Ndiaye right looked better. Resulted in Alcaraz having our best chance. And as far as I can remember our only shot on target.
We can’t expose JOB and Garner like that again

If he can get it in this market.
Soucek wouldn't surprise me, also Harrison.
