The dark, the endless darkness stokes our fears,
and shadows twist and turn like evil fumes,
it’s been this way for moons, for months, for years;
another week of faceless torment looms.
What is the point – what point is there to life
when all around is sadness and distress?
Adrift, we drown in torrid tides of strife
where pain and death constrict with their caress.
But wait! A lamp appears ahead, so bright!
A light, a wished-for salve to set us free;
the blackness ebbs and, drawn toward this sight
we cling to hope, like leaves cling to a tree…
The light of truth returns, the light of reason!
Fetch me my bobble…’tis the football season.
