He would just glide around the pitch, rarely troubled by attackers, calm on the ball in good distribution. If he could have stayed fit for more than 40% of the season he'd be one of the all time legends. Then again, we probably would have had to sell him after 2 seasons (albeit at a massive profit). I think when you weigh up cost vs impact on other transfers vs likely impact on pitch being limited by injuries vs age vs restricting long term development opportunities, it just doesn't stack up for us as a 'head' (rather than heart) led decision if we want to be a professional, well run and efficient club going forward. I'd rather we finished a couple of places lower next season (as long as we're not in the bottom three) and be competing for Europe or better in 3 years time, than finish slightly higher in mid-table next year and still be there in 3.
