Garner caught the eye most for his spraying the ball around with decent accuracy from a deeper position, as opposed to being some sort of Claude Makélélé-esque destroyer reincarnation.
Encouraging signs, if not necessarily the definitive answer to our central midfield conundrum. Previous Message
Didn't watch the game but caught the brief edited highlights(PL edited so obviously biased to utd)
After reading how well Garner had played as a 6 I was horrified at how open we were in front of our back 4.Utd's midfield had acres of space, surely this is the area and main responsibility of a 6 to protect.
As I said never saw the full game and he may have been spraying passes around like prime Beckham but we gave Utd far too much space. Previous Message
I wonder whether Garner's decent showing as a deep lying no.6 on Sunday night has now decreased the urgency for Moyes to buy someone in that position this window?
Yes, it was only one match, but he looked good back there, and his distribution was impressive in setting up attacks from deep.
I would of course still like us to bring in a first choice number 6, as we're going to need midifeld numbers when Gueye and Ndiaye head off to Africa in January, but good to know there's someone already at the club that can slot in there and not look out of place. Certainly the best I've seen Garner play in a long time if not ever at EFC.
