However, no-one in the whisky community can understand why you would mature a 'prestige' whisky like that for 17 years (or more) and then bottle it at 40% - it's nonsense.
Even their standard 10 year old is bottled at 46%.
Don't fall for the hype. ("special release", "limited edition", "special design & packaging"... marketing mumbo jumbo).
There are much better value for money Ardbegs at well under half the price and at almost cask strength.

I remember how I bought a bottle of 17 years old Ardbeg for £29.75 from the Port Ellen Spar on my first trip to Islay in 2001. It must be over 20 years since that 17 years old was even available. If there’s a bottle out there somewhere, it must cost a four or five figure amount of £s.
A friend of mine has a saying ”life is too short to waste it drinking bad whiskies”. I’d love to follow that principle, but it’s getting pretty expensive. Previous Message
