Couple of terrible early matches, incl defeat to Crewe, but finished well enough, then got walloped by Arsenal on tbe opening day.

Everyone was up in arms about transfers. Half the squad left on freebies (Gemmill, Alexandersson, Gerrard, Unsie, etc), Radzinski asked to go and Rooney had one foot out the door. All we signed was Marcus Bent and Tim Cahil from the lower divisions.

After the previous season's shambles we were definitely goners.

The worst thing now is that all the games are on TV and scrutinized as if they are competitive.

I'm glad I went to bed and didn't stay up.

Moyes may be playing down expectations with his tone but the quotes I saw from him this morning don't seem to be particularly helpful in terms of the current squad. We finished strongly with these plus the two everyone wanted rid of - Doucoure and Harrison.
