Practically every other transfer window, there were things going on behind the scenes for Alex to be sold / bought somewhere, and every single time it was a question of the buying club to get rid of someone first, or the selling club to secure a replacement before selling. And these chains seemed to be endless.
I’m sure the Everton team is working their arses off to get the right players - and I think Dave’s possible dithering has very little to do with it - and I underline the right players, because this time they try to avoid buying just anyone available to make up the numbers. And I’m fine with that. Previous Message
of decent quality, and it's right to focus on that ahead of simply getting bodies in. I'd have liked to seen more through the door already although I fully appreciate these things take time and patience, unless you are a very high profile club who will pay the real big bucks. Moyes does seem to insist on running the rule over players' character which is a good thing - probably a legacy of having to work on tight budgets then taking a punt on the likes of Drenthe and Shandy Andy who didn't work out on or off the pitch.
There are obvious advantages to getting your business tied up early, if you hark back to 2007, we got Baines, Howard, Jags and Pienaar in pretty short order and then topped it off by bringing Yakubu in before the deadline. What a window that was. The exception though rather than the rule.
The next few weeks will reveal a lot about how effective the new regime is at getting things done - by the sounds of it the ambition to add significant numbers is shared by all. Think after years of leaving it late to bring people in and often failing to strengthen adequately in the summer, it's understandable that there's a bit of twitchiness over the lack of activity so far.
There are good reasons to think things will be different now, but nobody really knows. Previous Message
Whilst a little disconcerting in relation to squad building, I trust the process and I have faith in Moyes delivering a competitive team.
I choose to be positive and I am quietly confident we will see decent recruitment in the coming weeks.
We know TFG have built a solid foundation which will see us in a much stronger position going forward.
The key is to make us stronger on the pitch and have a genuine threat from the bench.
Thankfully we have a solid base ìn defence and a promising new striker. We all know that we are desperate to improve the right hand side of the
team and I am sure that this is a key focus. Time will tell.
Due diligence will have been completed and a preferential list will have been drawn up. I am more worried that Tarks and Branthwaite won't be fit for the Leeds game.
TFG have stabilised the club, recruited well in key areas, and have a clear strategy to rebuild our historic club.
Yes, we are a million years away from the Top 4 and some lower teams have recruited well, however other mid table teams have lost key players (Brentford, Brighton etc).
Our transition will take several windows to be truly competitive. For now, enjoy the ride.
